The Pimax Crystal Light has quickly positioned itself as one of the most powerful standalone VR headsets on the market. With its razor-sharp image quality, modular design and impressive price-performance ratio, this is a dream for novice and seasoned VR users alike. By the way, the Pimax Crystal Light is extremely well suited for sim racing. But those who want to get the most out of their headset can't ignore some essential accessories.

In this article, we discuss four indispensable upgrades that will make your Pimax Crystal Light transform a powerful VR headset into the ultimate immersive (sim racing) experience. These accessories not only increase comfort and ergonomics, but also improve tracking, audio quality and the overall user experience. Whether you are an avid sim racer, work daily in a virtual environment or simply want to get more out of your VR games - these accessories really make a difference. Below you will find - in no particular order - the 4 most essential upgrades for your Pimax Crystal Light. Let's go!

#1 - Pimax Comfort Topstrap: Better Weight, Less Pressure

The standard Pimax Crystal Light uses a single strap at the back. While this is lightweight and minimalistic, it can lead to discomfort and uneven pressure distribution on your face during longer sessions. Especially in intense games or prolonged simulations, this can result in fatigue or distraction.

The solution? The Comfort Topstrap.

This extra band, the comfortt topstrap, is placed on top of your head and helps distribute the weight of the headset better. This significantly reduces the pressure on your nose and forehead - a crucial advantage during prolonged simulation sessions or VR gaming marathons. The improved weight distribution also keeps the headset more stable, which indirectly benefits tracking. The Pimax Comfort Topstrap costs just €17.95! Not a lot of money for extra comfort.

Pimax Comfort Topstrap

Benefits at a glance:

  • Even weight distribution over the head
  • Less pressure on forehead, nose and cheekbones
  • More comfort during long sessions
  • Better balance prevents shifts

Anyone who regularly runs long sim racing, flight sim or VR gaming sessions will notice the difference immediately. A small investment with a big impact on your overall experience.

#2 - Pimax 15mm Facial Foam: Comfort and Bespoke Fit

A comfortable fit is essential for an immersive VR experience. The standard 11mm foam already provides a good base, but some users prefer slightly thicker padding, which is why Pimax has developed the 15mm Facial Foam for extra comfort and a better fit. This facial foam is available for just €17.95.

This foam is designed to distribute pressure evenly across your face, reducing pressure points and redness. It also provides extra stability during rapid head movements, which is especially useful during intense games or simulations. Thanks to the improved grip, the headset stays in place better even if you move your head frequently.

Why choose 15mm?

  • Tighter fit for better stability
  • Reduces headset movement during rapid head movements
  • More comfortable for wider face shapes or glasses wearers
  • Better contact with your face for an enclosed, immersive feel

The facial foam is also easy to install, detachable and clean - an absolute must-have for those who use their headset intensively or share it with others. Hygiene and comfort thus go hand in hand.

#3 - Pimax DMAS Earphones: High Quality Audio for Full Immersion

Although the Crystal Light comes with built-in audio as standard, the DMAS (Deluxe Modular Audio Strap) earphones a huge upgrade for anyone seeking maximum sound quality. Equipped with 40mm drivers, these high-fidelity earphones deliver deeper bass, clearer mids and a more realistic soundstage. As a result, details such as footsteps, engine roar or ambient noise come out much better. The Pimax DMAS earphones cost €88.95.

Pimax DMAS Earphones

Why DMAS?

  • Richer and more dynamic sound than standard audio
  • Perfect for sim racers, flight simmers, VR shooters and movies
  • Perfectly matches the modular design of the Crystal Light
  • Lightweight design with comfortable fit around the ear

Whether you are driving on the track, flying over a digital world or enjoying a virtual cinema experience, the DMAS earphones make every detail come alive. Please note: due to high demand, DMAS may be temporarily out of stock. If you buy the headset first, you can simply add the DMAS to your setup later with loyalty points.

#4 - Pimax Lighthouse Faceplate: Ultimate Tracking Precision

The Pimax Crystal Light uses inside-out tracking as standard. This is simple and cost-effective, but those who want to get the most out of their tracking opt for the Lighthouse Faceplate. This additional expansion will cost you a whopping €176.95, making it an expensive but very good upgrade. Especially users who already own SteamVR devices will achieve significantly better tracking performance with it.

With this add-on, you seamlessly link the headset to the SteamVR ecosystem. This gives you access to a wider range of motion, lower latency and unparalleled tracking accuracy. Ideal for demanding sim racers, VR athletes, motion capture applications and professional workflows such as design and simulation.

Pimax Lighthouse Faceplate

Compatible with:

  • Pimax Sword Controller
  • Index Knuckles Controller
  • VIVE Controller
  • VIVE Tracker (1.0/2.0/3.0)
  • Tundra Tracker

Installation is simple and seamless. You keep all the features of the Crystal Light, but add the powerful SteamVR ecosystem. An investment that significantly improves overall accuracy and response time.

Why these accessories make a difference

The power of the Pimax Crystal Light lies not only in its hardware, but also in its expansion options. By combining the headset with the accessories above, you benefit from:

  • Long-lasting comfort during marathon sessions thanks to better weight distribution and fit
  • Better fit for every face shape and facial structure, with improved stability
  • High-end audio which drags you all the way into your virtual environment, from racetrack to battlefield
  • Accurate tracking for professional applications or competitive games

In addition, these accessories ensure that you get the maximum return on your Crystal Light headset investment. You don't just take advantage of the standard functionalities, but take your entire VR setup to the next level, making gaming - and sim racing in particular - even more fun.

Pimax Crystal Light

Conclusion

As an avid sim racer and user of the Pimax Crystal Light (see my extended review) and Pimax Crystal Super (see also our comprehensive review) I can confirm from personal experience how big a difference these accessories make.

What makes the Pimax Crystal Light so special is its modularity. The headset forms a solid base, but it is the ability to expand it purposefully that really makes the difference. By adding accessories such as the Comfort Topstrap, the 15mm Facial Foam or the Lighthouse Faceplate, you transform the headset from good to professional. Comfort visibly increases, your tracking becomes more accurate and your VR experience simply feels better tuned for serious sessions - like intense sim racing.

During longer virtual racing sessions, comfort plays an essential role. Accessories such as the topstrap and facefoam contribute to a more stable fit and less fatigue. And for users who want to perfect their tracking to the last detail, the Lighthouse Faceplate is a logical step forward. Although I have to admit that for sim racing, this addition is less relevant.

Take advantage of extra discounts during the Pimax Flash Sale!

On Wednesday 26 June 2025 from 190:00 to 01:00 (CEST), you will benefit from 10% discount during the Pimax Flash Sale! Normally with our exclusive discount code ‘simracinghub’ you get 3% discount on all Pimax products, but during this Pimax Flash Sale so 10%!

While some of these upgrades could have come as standard with the headset in my opinion, I also understand the choice to keep the entry-level price low. This makes the Pimax Crystal Light attractive to a broad target group, with the freedom to upgrade later according to one's preference and intensity of use.

Whether you are an avid sim racer or simply looking for the best possible VR experience, these accessories will take your setup to the next level. The modular design allows for targeted enhancements where you need them. And that's exactly what makes this headset so powerful and versatile.

Whether you are just starting out with VR or have been working in virtual environments for years, these Pimax accessories will make your sim racing / VR experience even more enjoyable. The added value of these accessories is mainly in the extra ease of use. You notice it not only in your comfort and performance, but especially in how effortlessly you merge into the world around you. Order them today!
