Fanatec Lowers Prices Direct Drive Wheelbases to 30%

Fanatec has announced that it is structurally reducing the prices of its Direct Drive wheelbases. Following the recent introduction of the new Podium DD, which was already positioned significantly lower than the earlier Podium DD2, other Direct Drive models are now also getting cheaper. Depending on the model and region, price reductions run up to 30 per cent.

This adjustment is not a temporary action, but the result of technical and operational optimisations within the Fanatec ecosystem.

From first-generation pioneer to mature Direct Drive platform

The Podium DD1 and DD2 were the first widely available Direct Drive wheelbases for sim racing. That pioneering work inevitably entailed a complex and costly architecture. The focus was on maximum performance and reliability, not scalability or cost efficiency.

With the introduction of the CSL DD, Fanatec moved to a second-generation Direct Drive architecture. This platform is more efficiently built, more scalable and is now the basis for several product lines. It covers a performance range from 5 Nm to 25 Nm while delivering consistent, detailed force feedback without the complexity of the first generation.

This technological development makes it possible to offer Direct Drive hardware at more competitive prices, without compromising on quality or performance.

Lower costs due to CORSAIR integration

Besides the technical evolution, integration with CORSAIR also plays an important role. Closer cooperation in production, component sourcing and global logistics has streamlined processes and structurally reduced costs.

Fanatec stresses that these improvements are sustainable. The lower production costs are not used for temporary discounts, but form the basis for a permanently adjusted pricing structure.

Price reductions Direct Drive wheelbases (EU)

The impact of the new pricing is mainly visible in the mid- and high-end segment. Some concrete examples for the European market:

  • ClubSport DD+: from €999.95 to €799.95
  • ClubSport DD: from €799.95 to €599.95
  • Gran Turismo DD Pro Wheel Base: from €599.95 to €499.95
  • CSL DD (8 Nm): from €449.95 to €429.95
  • CSL DD (5 Nm): from €349.95 to €329.95

Several Ready2Race bundles have also been adjusted in price. The full breakdown by region and configuration is recorded in the official Fanatec price overview.

Specifically, what does this mean for sim racers?

Personally, I think this is a good and above all necessary development. Direct Drive has become technically mature in recent years, but price-wise it often remained unnecessarily highly positioned. Especially when you look at what the current generation of CSL and ClubSport wheelbases actually deliver in terms of detail, power and consistency.

This price cut emphatically shifts Direct Drive sim racing towards the mid-range segment. Whereas Direct Drive had a clear financial barrier for a long time, the switch now becomes more realistic for a much larger group of sim racers.

For novice sim racers, this significantly lowers the cost of entry. For experienced sim racers who have been doubting an upgrade for some time, the difference between belt-driven systems and Direct Drive becomes smaller than ever. From my own experience, this is exactly the point where Direct Drive really shows its added value: calmness in the wheel, more detail and a more consistent feel over longer stints.

Importantly, the performance level of the current CSL and ClubSport wheelbases is hardly inferior to older premium models, while the pricing is now considerably more favourable.

Are you considering a Fanatec Direct Drive wheelbase?

If you have been in doubt about switching to the Fanatec Direct drive wheelbases, then frankly this is one of the best times to make that move. The current pricing is much more in line with what you get technically: instant force feedback, more detail around the grip limit and, above all, more peace and consistency during longer races.
