The Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake definitely deserves first place on our list of the top 8 best sim racing handbrakes, and that is no coincidence. The XB1 easily stands out above its competitors and here's why.

Stylish design

The design of the Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake deserves praise, as it is without a doubt an absolute eye-catcher in your sim racing setup. With striking colours in blue, yellow/gold and anthracite and black accents, this handbrake immediately catches the eye. The beautiful and bold design not only exudes power, but also adds a touch of style to your racing simulator. To be honest, I would have liked it better if the anthracite had given way to the colour black. Although this colour combination certainly doesn't look out of place. That way, the whole thing would be even better and seamlessly integrated with my beautiful P1X cockpit.

The combination of high-quality materials and a thoughtful and simple design makes the Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake not only a powerful performance tool, but also a visual masterpiece that attracts attention and admiration. It is a true eye-catcher in the world of sim racing.

The Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake immediately stands out thanks to its unparalleled build quality, which is exactly what you would expect from a Sim-Lab product. The XB1 Load Cell handbrake has been developed with a strong commitment to innovation and quality, ensuring sim racers get only the best sim racing gear. The handbrake meets the highest standards and offers the ultimate motorsport experience in your own racing cockpit. Exactly as you should and can expect from Sim-Lab.

Load Cell Technology for Unrivalled Precision

An exclusive and patented loadcell design gives this handbrake an unprecedented level of precision. Unlike measuring movement, this loadcell measures exactly how much force is applied. This allows you to use your muscle memory much more effectively, ensuring that you apply the exact amount of handbrake you need every time, corner after corner.

Precision 150 kg Loadcell

What makes this handbrake truly special is the integrated XB1 Load Cell technology. Instead of conventional potentiometers, this handbrake uses a load cell of a whopping 150kg, resulting in unprecedented precision and consistency. Every movement of the handbrake is accurately measured, providing a realistic experience that captures every nuance of braking force.

Vivid Handbrake Experience with Dual Stage Damping

Discover a new level of precision thanks to the Sim-Lab XB1 Loadcell Handbrake's two-step damper system. This allows you to experience a more realistic handbrake feel, similar to what you are used to in rally and drift cars. The initial movement of the brake lever mimics the build-up of pressure in the braking system, just like in a real racing car. Of course, you have the option to disable this feature and add a single elastomer to the brake stack for direct application.

Compatibility with Various Sim Racing Platforms

The Sim-Lab Handbrake with XB1 Load Cell is not limited to just one sim racing platform. This versatile handbrake is compatible with all popular sim racing titles on the PC including iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Dirt 2.0, the new EA Sports WRC and Automobilista 2. It offers seamless integration into your existing setup.

Using the Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake is simple and hassle-free. No hassle with complicated software installations. It is simply a matter of ‘plug and play’, so you can get started right away. However, for the optimal experience, we recommend using the free Race Director software to download and install. This handy software allows you to adjust and calibrate the handbrake to your personal preference. It is intuitive and extremely user-friendly, allowing you to quickly and easily fine-tune the handbrake to your needs.

Montage and Calibration

The montage of the Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake was a piece of cake. With just two screws, I managed to securely attach this handbrake to my Sim-Lab P1X rig. It was really a matter of minutes before I was ready to race. If you unexpectedly find that you don't have enough space or that the angle isn't quite right, don't worry. Sim-Lab offers a handy extra mounting bracket for just €29.95. This XB1 mounting bracket offers more flexibility and makes adjusting the handbrake position a breeze. As far as we are concerned, this mounting bracket is definitely recommended for anyone wanting to get the most out of their Sim-Lab Handbrake.

Calibration

The Race Director software is particularly intuitive and extremely user-friendly. Calibrating the Sim-Lab Handbrake with XB1 Loadcell is also effortless and user-friendly. You have a choice of three handy presets and can easily set the action zone for the upper or lower part. Personally, I always prefer a linear preset, so I didn't have to make any adjustments here. In addition, the software allows you to save various profiles, so you can tune the handbrake to your liking for different types of racing games. This gives you ultimate control over your racing experience.

User experience

My experience with the Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake has been extremely positive. Indeed, this is without a doubt the best sim racing handbrake I have ever experienced. So herewith, a big compliment to Sim-Lab for once again delivering a fantastic product of outstanding quality. The Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake is proof where engineering and perfection come together. After extensive testing over several weeks with several games, including WRC Generations, Dirt 2.0 and Rallycross in Automobilista 2, I can confidently say that this handbrake takes my racing simulation experience to the next level.

The grip feels incredibly comfortable and good in the hand. The handle is precise in length and offers an unprecedented grip, which is essential for precise control in rally games. The ability to adjust the resistance is particularly convenient; with just a twist of the blue rings, you can perfectly adjust the handbrake to your preferences. So far, I personally have not felt the need to use the extra set of elastomer, as the default settings already suit my needs extremely well. The possibilities of fully customising the handbrake to your preferences make the Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake a valuable addition to any sim racing setup.

What I particularly appreciate is the sensitivity of the handbrake. It allows you to be powerful when you want to initiate a big drift, but at the same time you can be extremely smooth and precise when taking sharp turns on dirt roads. This makes for a great and immersive racing experience where you are in control down to the smallest details.

Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake: The Ultimate Sim Racing Handbrake?

In conclusion, the Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake is downright impressive. After extensive testing in several sim racing games, I can confidently say that this is the ultimate handbrake for serious sim racers like me. This handbrake offers the ultimate rally experience I have longed for for quite some time. With every handbrake turn, a broad smile appears on my face, bringing immense satisfaction and enjoyment.

What really sets the Sim-Lab XB1 Handbrake apart is its unrivalled precision. With a 150kg load cell measuring the exact force, you are assured of extraordinary accuracy on every handbrake turn. The two-stage damper system adds a new level of realism and the ability to adjust resistance makes this handbrake truly yours.

The beautiful design with striking blue and gold accents immediately attracts attention and adds a touch of style to your racing setup. Moreover, the Race Director software is extremely user-friendly, making adjusting and calibrating the handbrake a breeze. All this, combined with a price tag of €199.99, offers absolute value for money.

In short, if you are looking for a high-quality sim racing handbrake where precision, realism and quality are paramount, the Sim-Lab XB1 is without a doubt the best choice right now. It is an undisputed ‘Yes!’ to answer the question of whether this is the ultimate sim racing handbrake.
